Shading Techniques - Traditional Art Practice Week 15

This week I started with the self directed shading techniques exercise. I shaded five objects that I had lying around using different shading techniques. I used varied line weight to create visual interest.

For my final piece I used a combination hatching and filling out with the side of the pencil. I used a charcoal pencil to make the darker areas darker. I brought some of the objects closer together to help with the framing and composition.

I edited the piece in photoshop a little to fix up the framing and values. I could definitely have done a better job at showing the shadows. I feel like the biggest problem with my work is the lach of proper shadow shapes. If I can get that fixed up my work will probably improve considerably. Another problem is that I keep giving everything the same base value and then shade everything differently so all of it looks terrible. This is another aspect of my art that I need to improve.
